Windows and window film play a critical role in maintaining a building’s climate control.
In most regions of the world, heating and cooling loads represent the largest building-sector energy end-use. The building envelope – the boundary between the conditioned interior of the building and the outdoors – can be significantly improved to reduce the energy needed to heat and cool buildings. With innovative technologies such as advanced facades, highly insulating windows, high levels of insulation, well-sealed structures, and cool roofs in hot climates, the need for interior conditioning can be reduced or avoided in many parts of the world.
Window films are applied to the inside surface of existing glass, to enhance the appearance of the glass while also increasing performance. Window film rejects heat from outside, helping to maintain comfortable interior temperature and reduce cooling loads. There are also films available to strengthen glass when needed.
